It has been officially confirmed by the ATP that the St. Petersbrug tournament is set to move to Tel Aviv this year.

The September tournament will give Israel its first ATP tour stop since 1996.

"After 19 memorable years in St. Petersburg, the time has come for us to take the tournament in a new direction," a tournament representative said in a statement.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the change in venue is because the financier of the tournament, an Israeli-Georgian billionaire, requested the change in venue because of the Russian-Ukranian political situation and lack of revenue at St. Petersburg.

The move has been approved by the ATP subject to agreement on final conditions. The site chosen has previously hosted Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties.
