Venus Williams has withdrawn from Kuala Lumpur but will make the trip to fulfill sponsor and other obligations. Williams said in a statement she was "recovering from a severe strep throat infection."
The former world No. 1 was also scheduled to speak at a women's event during the tournament.
"I will be in Kuala Lumpur to honour my obligations to the sponsors and attend the Women@Work forum," she said.
