Tennis-loving actor Will Ferrell is set to play Bobby Riggs in a new movie called Match Maker. The film will be an adaptation of a 2013 ESPN.com story by Don Van Natta Jr. about the 1973 Battle of the Sexes, which just turned 40 years old in September. Riggs was 55 years old at the time, and Billie Jean King, his opponent, was 29. Ferrell himself is 46 at present.
That said, the lingering question remains: Who will play BJK? (Kate McKinnon, anyone?)
The Van Natta Jr. article was titled "The Match Maker," and its intro served as a spritzed-up harbinger of things to come: "Bobby Riggs, The Mafia and The Battle of the Sexes." With that in mind, the film is to be a drama, of course. Steve Conrad, the writer behind The Pursuit of Happyness and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (vehicles for Will Smith and Ben Stiller, respectively), also penned this story.
Who would you cast as a 29-year-old Billie Jean King? A big name or a character actor? Sound off below, and let the casting call commence.
