Venus Williams, Monfils, Pospisil withdraw from Madrid

Venus Williams has withdrawn from Madrid with an ongoing throat infection. The former No. 1 has not played since Charleston, where she said she was experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Gael Monfils has also pulled out with the ankle injury that led him to retire at Bucharest, and Vasek Pospisil is out with a back injury that has affected him this season.
