Nicolas Almagro has undergone foot surgery and could be out until next season.

The Spaniard had been bothered by the problem through the clay-court season and had not played since retiring from his first-round match at the French Open. He underwent plantar fasciitis surgery this week.

''I feel like new,'' said Almagro on social media. ''Already, I'm thinking about work, and to have a good recovery.''

He is expected to be able to return to the gym in about two weeks and start hitting in the following six weeks.
