TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP)—Defending champion Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia endured 11 double faults and unrelenting pressure on serve to beat 2010 champ Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-3 to reach the Tashkent Open quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Jovanovski next runs into Urszula Radwanska, the Pole who eliminated fifth-seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-3, 6-3.

Another former champ was ousted, 2012 winner and second seed Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania, by Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3).

Local wild card Nigina Abduraimova, who until this week last won a WTA main draw match here in 2009, put 12 aces past Alexandra Panova of Russia in winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. She lined up Akgul Amanmuradova, ensuring Uzbekistan of a semifinalist for the first time since Amanmuradova reached the inaugural final in 2009.
