Caroline Wozniacki has given some details about how former fiancé Rory McIlroy told her that he did not want to get married.

Speaking on the TV show In Depth With Graham Bensinger, Wozniacki confirmed that McIlroy told her his decision in an unexpected phone call. The golfer subsequently announced that seeing the wedding invitations led him to realize he was not ready to be married.

"It was very hard because he made it very public from the start," Wozniacki said. "I thought at least, you know, I would get a face to face or something. But there was nothing—it was just a phone call and I did not hear from him again...He put out a press release so I didn't have a choice, you know,  it just got put in my face."

The former No. 1 said that a Miami vacation with Serena Williams helped her reset. "I went to Miami after the French Open and Serena was there and we had a great time," Wozniacki said. "I came back from that and I felt refreshed, I felt like a new self."

Wozniacki returned by reaching the semifinals at Eastbourne and has had some of her best performances of the season since, including her second Grand Slam final at the U.S. Open.
