Novak Djokovic's coach, Boris Becker, said the pair have established a good relationship and plan to continue their partnership.

Becker has worked with the world No. 1 since the start of the year and helped the Serbian win Wimbledon. However, Djokovic was defeated at the Australian Open by Stan Wawrinka, lost to reigning champion Rafael Nadal in the Roland Garros final and was upset by Kei Nishikori in the U.S. Open semifinals last month. Hall of Famer Becker said Djokovic has improved his net play and is shortening points.

"We have a very good relationship. We have built a lot of experience, a lot of trust,” Becker told AFP. “We like it very much and we want to continue. That is the plan.

"To win Wimbledon and be in the final at the French Open was a very good performance, but you want always to be better, challenge yourself and improve your game. I think Novak is much more comfortable at the net and he finishes the points much quicker. That was an important part."

Djokovic has played well this fall, defeating Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych in succession to win Beijing and advancing to the Shanghai semifinals where he lost to eventual-champion Roger Federer. Djokovic is trying to fend off Federer for the year-end world No. 1 ranking. The Wimbledon champion holds a 990-point lead over Federer in the ATP Race Standings. The second-ranked Swiss could overtake him if Federer goes deep at the Paris Masters and the ATP Final in London and Djokovic, who is defending champion at both events, falters.

"The year has been successful but it's not over yet," said Becker. "Of course he wants to win Roland Garros in the future but that's one of his many goals next year. When you're a tennis player you have many goals, not only one tournament. I think the main thing is always the ranking. To stay at the number one position means to be consistent during the whole year and that includes Grand Slams."
