Marin Cilic says the relationship between both of his coaches, his former one Bob Brett and his current one Goran Ivanisevic, has worked perfectly. Cilic won his first Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open and has been working with both coaches for many years.

“All the things that Bob was teaching me, he was teaching Goran,” the Croat said to the *New York Times*. “And Goran knew what things I was going through, and if I had some difficulties with the things Bob was teaching me, Goran already understood. So there was no need for conversation about that. He already was introduced to the situation. Bob had spoken to him many times. It was, I think, a perfect match for me."

Cilic qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals and begins his tournament on Monday, when he faces Novak Djokovic.

Cilic says his experiences with his coaches have been different and complicated, but they have both helped him. “I had a really good balance,” he said. “Bob taught me many things about the game, and now I’m working with Goran who brought me these small details that helped me to take this to another level. So it’s a tricky question. I feel of course that the ex-players are going to be the best coaches but not necessarily would they be the best ones from an early age for players to teach them everything and have the patience.”
