No. 1 Serena Williams is named the WTA Player Of The Year for the sixth time overall. Williams has now won the award in 2002,2008, 2009, and 2012-2014.

The 18th Grand Slam titlist won the US Open, and also the WTA Finals for her two biggest victories this season. "I'm really grateful and humbled to receive this award," Williams said. "It's been an amazing year.”

Williams was unable to win at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, but turned her season around, winning 26 of 29 matches when she began the summer hard courts.

“It's been a really difficult year for me. I don't think I've had such an up and down year,” she said. “I started out well with Brisbane; then didn't do well in Australia; then I did well again in Miami. It was really up and down.   I ended the year well. I had a couple injuries in the beginning of Asia, but I'm glad I came and I was able to end well.

''So I think that was important. How you start is how you finish, right?”
