Juan Martin del Potro, who withdrew from this week's event in Brisbane, is now scheduled to return to the tour in Sydney, followed by the Australian Open.

The Argentine, who has not played singles since Dubai in February because of a left wrist injury that required surgery, indicated that he is still not fully recovered but wants to get back to playing.

"I missed the tour, I missed to compete. Those feelings outweigh the pain in the wrist, which comes and goes and prevented me from having the ideal pre-season training," Del Potro said in a statement on social media. "I don’t expect great results. At this point I don't care about the rankings. I take it as a reward for the effort that I put to return."

The former U.S. Open champion is now ranked in the 130s.
