Roger Federer said he does not know what the problem with his right pinky finger was during his second-round match at the Australian Open.

Federer called the trainer after dropping the first set to Simone Bolelli, and said there was swelling and no visible laceration, and medical staff could not identify the problem. He eventually won the match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

"I don't know if it's a blister. I don't know what that thing is. It's the weirdest thing. I don't know," he said. "I feel it on the tip of my finger. Just felt really odd starting after the break, and for three, four games, it was the funniest feeling I have. I feel like it's numb and swollen.''

The world No. 2 said he did not know what it was even once he came off court.

''I don't know what it was," he said. "I still don't know. I just wanted to have a chat with the physio just see what we can do. I know there is nothing we could do. I knew we couldn't tape it up because then it would be even bigger and more weird. Actually it went away, but now I feel again. I don't know what the feeling is."
