Tomas Berdych has confirmed that he is engaged to girlfriend Ester Satorova. The 29-year-old Czech said he proposed during the off-season while the two were on holiday.

"I had some plan how to do it, but like three days we get pretty bad weather, so it's almost impossible to do that. Then it was nice, and they help us to make a nice setup. It was like after the dinner on the beach," he said.

The two have been dating for more than two years. Berdych, who has said having a non-tennis playing girlfriend has helped him better balance his career, sees his off-court relationship having a positive impact on the court as well. He previously dated fellow Czech player Lucie Safarova.

"I feel good about it to have a good personal life, and then combine it with my tennis life as well," he said. "Because I know that whatever is happening in tennis or around my career, and then I can come back home or wherever I am, I can talk with my partner about basically everything. We can talk about the other things, which is great, that I can just completely switch off from the tennis. That's basically the best way how you can relax."

Berdych also took on a new trainer and coach during the off-season, and is now working with, Dani Vallverdu, Andy Murray's former assistant coach.
