Dominika Cibulkova says she will have surgery on her injured ankle following the U.S. Open, not wanting to interrupt her season.

The 25-year-old Slovakian has been having problems with her Achilles tendon, and withdrew from tournaments in Dubai and Doha.

"I'm still in chronic pain, but it can be handled," she told the website tennis-arena.cz.

Cibulkova said the procedure would require a break from the tour, which she would prefer to take following the Grand Slams.

"I would go for arthroscopic surgery. You're not able to play for 2-3 months. Then I will cancel the Asian tour and would like to prepare for the new season," she said.

The 2014 Australian Open runner-up says she will postpone surgery further if she could return to the Top 8 and play the WTA Finals. “If my season if going to be good and I can qualify for the WTA Championships, I would arrange everything accordingly.”

Cibulkova is currently No. 18 in the rankings.
