Juan Martin del Potro says he wants to play Davis Cup again, following changes at Argentina’s tennis federation.

The 26-year-old has not played Davis Cup since 2012, citing disagreements with former team captain Martin Jaite and federation officials. However, with a new captain at the help and a new approach from leadership, del Potro sees the right conditions to return, saying officials can now "change Argentine tennis in a good direction."

The former U.S. Open champion remains sidelined following a second surgery on his wrist, and will not be able to play the team's next tie, March 6-8 against Brazil. Upon his return, however, Del Potro said he would do "whatever the team needs."

"The team captain knows he can count on me. I hope this return lasts for many years," he said.

Del Potro, who has been hitting in Miami, would have liked to return at the Sony Open in Key Biscayne, there but says his preparation will take a while longer.
