As planned, Serena Williams says she had tests done in the off-season to determine the cause of her illness at Wimbledon. Williams, who retired from her doubles match with complaints of dizziness, said she experienced similar problems at Wuhan in the fall, but would not describe it more specifically than as a virus: "That's all I could say, and that's all it was," she said to The New York Times in an interview.

"I had a bunch of follow-up tests in the fall to see why I was continually getting ill and dizzy and felt like I was going to faint," she said. "I’m on some new vitamins, and I’ve been really good ever since."

Williams said she has since told her team not to allow her to go on court in such a condition, but would not look back on whether she had taken the right decision at Wimbledon. "It’s just I always give 100 percent," she said. "It doesn’t matter if I’m feeling bad, as you could see through this tournament."

In addition to catching a bad cold during the Australian Open, Williams also said she had a minor back problem during the two weeks that saw her win her 19th Grand Slam.
