World No. 1 Serena Williams withdrew from this week’s tournament in Dubai due to illness, but Venus Williams will compete, saying she feels good enough to play. The 34-year-old American, who has Sjogren’s Syndrome, traveled to Argentina for Fed Cup right after the Australian Open and won two matches during the tie.

“I’m hanging in there,” said Venus, now ranked No. 11 after an extended stretch of strong play and worldwide travel. “It’s definitely a lot. I usually don’t travel that much. But this time it was necessary, and I’m alright.

“[Serena], when you do all that travel you don’t have a chance to get better. So she needs time to regroup and get better. She needs to sit down and let herself recover.”
