Richard Gasquet, who retired in his opening match at Indian Wells, will not play next week in Miami. The Frenchman is dealing with the return of a chronic back condition and is returning to Paris for further examination.

"At the beginning of the third set, it returned, I had like a knife in my back," he told press in Indian Wells. "I will likely have an injection, and keep working with the physio two or three hours a day.''

He also retired in Dubai with a back problem, but wants to return in Monte Carlo, depending on how the injury recovers.

"The pain was very strong at Dubai, it's concerning, I won't say otherwise," Gasquet said. "It's not a question of surgery, it's a lot of work with physios."

Gasquet is currently ranked No. 25. Earlier this year he won Montepellier for his 11th tournament victory.
