Eugenie Bouchard will hit the practice court instead of playing Stuttgart, having dropped both her matches in what became a controversial Fed Cup appearance.

Bouchard, playing in her hometown of Montreal, fell to opponents ranked No. 66 and No. 104 in the tie against Romania. The 21-year-old was not originally been scheduled to play the tie, but during the week decided to join the team for the World Group playoff.

She drew attention and criticism for refusing a pre-match handshake from Alexandra Dulgheru at the draw ceremony, a gesture that was mimicked by the Romanian team following their first singles win. Bouchard said the move was "nothing personal," and that she does not like shaking hands before a match, having done somehting similar at a Fed Cup tie the previous year.

The world No. 7 has won just two matches since the Australian Open and has lost her last five, but she is determined to regain her form, saying she has played tough matches and come back before. "I know how to get there," she said. "I am going to skip the tournament in Stuttgart, train more, and play in Madrid."

Svetlana Kuznetsova and Andrea Petkovic have also withdrawn from the clay-court event, with both saying they were injured during Fed Cup ties.
