Jim Courier believes that Andy Murray has a real shot at winning the French Open this year, after the Scot’s success on clay over the past month.

The former No. 1 and U.S. Davis Cup captain was impressed by Murray’s win at Madrid, which came directly after winning his first career clay-court tournament in Munich. Murray, who defeated Nadal in the Madrid final, has reached two semifinals at Roland Garros. “Murray is most certainly a threat to go very deep and, if the draw breaks in his favor, a final is attainable,” Courier told ITV. “Once you reach the final, anything goes.”

Like many, Courier sees world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is the favorite at the French Open. But he also sees potential in world No. 5 Kei Nishikori and 19-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios of Australia. “Nishikori is my second favorite behind Djokovic and I firmly believe he is the second best clay court player today. Also, Kyrgios has the game, aggressive energy and athletic ability to stir things up the way he did at Wimbledon last year and in Australia in January.”
