Lleyton Hewitt will not play the French Open, but is planning a full grass-court schedule.

The 34-year-old, who is working his way towards retirement, played the ATP event in Houston but has not played any clay-court events in Europe. His manager, David Drysdale, confirmed to Australian press that the former No. 1 would not be playing the French Open. The decision was not an easy one, he said, with Hewitt twice having reached the quarterfinals though having less success in recent appearances. "But Davis Cup and Wimbledon have always been the focus," said Drysdale.

Hewitt will play grass-court events at 's-Hertogenboch and Queen's, where he will receive a wildcard, and also request a wildcard at Wimbledon. The Wimbledon wildcard has "yet to be confirmed," but Drysdale expects Hewitt will receive one prior to the tournament.

Hewitt will then head home to Australia for Davis Cup.
