PARIS—Ana Ivanovic agrees with Roger Federer that there are too many requests for "selfies" these days amongst fans. Federer complained about a fan who walked on court after his first-round win and tried to ask for one, and also commented on a few young fans who wanted pictures when they walked onto his practice court over the weekend.

"They do ask a lot. Sometimes they are very close and very much into your face," Ivanovic said. "Sometimes it can be actually quicker if they're ready for the photo. Nowadays it's all about selfies. It's not even about autographs anymore. They sometimes ask me to do it. You know, 'Can you please just do it because you're on court.' So it's a nice way to interact with fans, but sometimes can be a little bit overwhelming."

Victoria Azarenka thinks it’s not as big a problem as some have suggested. "Well, it is, yes, overwhelming, but it also comes with the job," Azarenka said. "Just to show a little bit of appreciation for the fans, I think it's important. I obviously cannot do it with everybody, but as much as you're comfortable with, I think it's important to do that, because we are here and playing in front of those fans who pay for their tickets to come watch us. I do appreciate my fans a lot. They give me motivation and they support you. I think it's just the matter of how well you manage it."
