In his latest comeback in Stuttgart, Tommy Haas defeated Mikhail Kukushkin, 6-4, 7-5. Due to a variety of injuries, the 37-year-old had not played for more than a year and he wasn’t sure when he could come back. Haas said that he was very nervous before he came on the court.

“There’s times when you’ve been away for a long time and you have a family, you don’t miss it that much. But the competitive side,” he told Eurosport. “The nerves and emotions I had before a match like this, I’ve haven’t had it for 55 weeks. You’re going to the toilet before the match and your mind is going all over the place.”

Haas lost his second-round match to Bernard Tomic, 7-6 (6), 6-2.

Roger Federer was excited that his friend Haas, as well as Swiss compatriot Marco Chiudinelli, were back on tour. Chiudinelli won his first match in the Netherlands after being injured this year.
