Novak Djokovic was in Umag on Sunday, but he wasn’t playing in the ATP final there—rather, he watched it from the stands as Dominic Thiem defeated Joao Sousa, 6-4, 6-1.

The 21-year-old Thiem noted Djokovic’s presence in the stands. “Today was a very special day,” he said. “We were watched by world's number one Novak Djokovic. Usually he is the one who entertains us with great tennis and today we turned it around.”

The Serb played the tournament as an up-and-coming player from 2004-07, and says he would like to compete in it again someday.

Djokovic said he attended “in the name of all distant memories,” but watching had him ready to return to play. “I'm drawn by the tennis, the racket is calling to me,” he said.
