Patty Schnyder has made a return to competitive play, falling in three sets at the ITF event in Darmstadt.

The 36-year-old from Switzerland, who had her first child about six months ago, played No. 422 Sofiya Kovalets at the ITF event, leading 4-1 in the third set but falling in a match that went approximately three hours.

Schnyder, who had not played since the 2011 French Open, was using the tournament as a "It's imposible to know what is my actual level," she told local press. "This tournament was just a good occasion for me to gauge where I am."

The former top player said she was not yet ready to compete at a professional level, but planned to keep practicing.
