Canada's Eugenie Bouchard, who lost in the first round at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, admits that her partnership with ex-coach Sam Sumyk wasn’t working at all.

Sumyk, who stopped working with Victoria Azarenka after the 2015 Australian Open, was hired by Bouchard, who had previously stopped working with Nick Saviano. Bouchard has lost 13 of her last 15 matches.

“It definitely wasn't working. There were some big problems, and I just felt like I, you know, had to make a change,” said Bouchard, who is currently ranked No. 25. “I think that was necessary for me.”

The decision came following Wimbledon, she added.

Bouchard is now working with a hitting partner, Marco Dragic, who trains in Florida. The two have known each other for the past three years, but he has not signed on as her full-time coach. “It's definitely not permanent right now. I haven't made that decision yet,” she said. "But for the time being he is going to be with me, yes...I'm grateful that he's been able to help me right away when I needed it.”

The 21-year-old Bouchard is scheduled to play Cincinnati and the U.S. Open.
