David Ferrer has withdrawn from the Montreal Masters with an ongoing elbow injury.

On Twitter, the world No. 7 announced that the injury that kept him from playing Wimbledon and Davis Cup will also delay his opening to the hard-court season. "I'm still not fit from my elbow injury," said Ferrer. "I will not be at Montreal."

The Spaniard apologized for his withdrawal, saying he would provide more information on his recovery.

Since I'm still not well from my elbow injury, sorry to say that I can not be in the tournament in Montreal. I'll report on my progress.

Ferrer did not say at which tournament he plans to return.
