Nick Kyrgios says he will curb his unruly behavior on court but still wants to show his personality while playing.

The 20-year-old could be suspended from the tour for six months if he incurs more than a set level of fines at ATP tournaments over the next six months. The ruling came from the tour following his derogatory remarks towards Stanislas Wawrinka during their match at Montreal.

While Wawrinka has said Krygios "didn't really apologize," the Australian reiterated in an interview with the Observer that he had, adding that he was not concerned how Wawrinka took it.

"I apologized to Stan privately and publicly,” he said. “I apologized to Donna [Vekic], not in person, but obviously through contacts."

Kyrgios added, "I originally didn’t think it would be picked up like that but it happened. I guess I’ll just learn from it. I mean, obviously I wouldn’t do it again, but I wouldn’t say I was embarrassed by it at all."

But he did not complain about the ATP ruling regarding his provisional suspension. "I deserved to be punished, to some extent. Obviously I’m still young. [But] they are giving me the impression that they are going to start locking down on that sort of stuff, so I’ve definitely learned my lesson," he said.

"I definitely know that I’ve got to keep everything in order and obviously be on my best behavior out there," the Australian added. "But at the same time I’m not going to go out there not showing any emotions. I am going to go out there and try to be myself."

While he has been criticized by most of the top names, Krygios said that a "lot of guys" had been "very supportive."

The ruling does not apply at Grand Slam and ITF events.
