Andy Murray, who lost to Kevin Anderson in the fourth round at the U.S. Open, said that he needed to rest before beginning to prepare for the Davis Cup semifinals. Murray took five days off after he lost to Anderson. Starting on Friday, the Scot will lead Great Britain against Australia in Glasgow.

After he lost in Flushing Meadows, the world No. 3 said that it was disappointing that he was unable to win a major this year. The 28-year-old has won two Grand Slam titles, the most recent being Wimbledon in 2013.

"That's many years work that's gone into building that sort of consistency," Murray told DavisCup.com. "To lose that is tough. I’ve had a long, long summer. Also, I’ve played some long matches as well at the U.S. Open too. My body needs to rest and recover—hard courts aren’t a forgiving surface on the body."

Earlier this year in Davis Cup action, Great Britain defeated the United States and France. Murray has won all four Davis Cup matches he's played this season, including a doubles rubber with his brother Jamie Murray against France.

Andy Murray will play the first singles rubber against Thanasi Kokkinakis, while Daniel Evans will face Bernard Tomic. Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot are scheduled for doubles action against Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Groth. Britain's nominated second singles player, Kyle Edmund was hurt earlier this week and has been replaced by world No. 300 Evans.

Nominations can be changed up to one hour before play.
