CAL GALS First the Spin reported that Serena Williams will reunite with celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz for the Pirelli Calendar. Now we know some of the famous types joining her on that roster, including the funniest woman of the year, Amy Schumer; rock-music icon Yoko Ono; and more. "The Cal" drops in November.
ALL HAIL THE CHIEF All credit to Stacey Allaster, the 52-year-old departing CEO of the WTA tour. She will swiftly leave her role as of October 2, the end of next week, to spend more time with family and work toward being healthy as a person and a unit. Christopher Clarey at The New York Times has it that Allaster returned home to Florida after the recently completed U.S. Open major and said, "I just can't do this anymore." Do see the story for comments from Chris Evert and others on Allaster's decision. Suffice it to say, she's going out on her own terms. That's always commendable.
TENNIS IS NO. 1 If you've wondered whether the enduring splendor and elegance of styles such as Bjorn Borg's mean much to the general public, check out GQ UK, which just labeled tennis "the coolest sport." As a friend put it to me this week, "I don't even have to read it. Borg. The first sport to dictate off-court fashion on court, in my opinion."
