NEW YORK—Bernard Tomic hopes that will return to the Australian Davis Cup team for its semifinal tie against Great Britain.

"I’m ready to play," Tomic said following his third-round defeat the U.S. Open. "We need our best players out there. If I have the opportunity I’m always ready to play these ties."

However, although Tomic is the highest-ranked Australian, it has to be seen whether he will be named to the team.

The 23-year-old had received a suspension from Tennis Australia for the quarterfinal Davis Cup tie following his highly critical remarks about Patrick Rafter and other Tennis Australia officials at Wimbledon. Tomic was also arrested in Miami the following week for playing loud music in his hotel room. He then defended his title immediately after in Bogota. Tennis Australia had indicated that Tomic would have to meet with officials to settle the issues between them before he could play on the team again.

According to News Corp., Tomic met with Davis Cup captain Wally Masur during the U.S. Open, and both sides appear willing for him to play. There was speculation that Nick Kyrgios could be kept off the team for his derogatory remarks to Stanislas Wawrinka in their meeting at Montreal.

Other potential members of the team include Thanasi Kokkinakis, Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Groth, with Hewitt, who will retire early next year, most likely to be named.
