The doubles team of Jamie Murray and John Peers ended their relationship in memorable fashion. After having five match points against Bob and Mike Bryan in their final round-robin match at the ATP World Tour Finals, Murray and Peers lost 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 16-14. The British and Australian duo had decided to split earlier this fall.

They began playing together three years ago, winning five titles and becoming prominent this year after reaching two Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

But now the No. 4-ranked team feels they can go further. Both have new partners already—Jamie Murray will play with Bruno Soares next year, while Peers will play with Finland's Henri Kontinen.

“It's kind of mutual. I think we're both looking to do something else,” Murray said. “That's it. That's life. We take the decision and we move on. Maybe it will turn out to be a good decision, maybe it will turn out to be a bad decision. I don't know. That's what we've come to. We look ahead now and look forward to starting new partnerships with new players.”

Peers has won all of his five titles with Murray, while the Scot has won 12 total titles with Peers, Andy Murray, Andre Sa, Max Mirnyi and Eric Butorac.

“We've had a great journey together,” Peers said. “I think it was definitely a mutual decision for both of us that we were ready to move on. We wish each other the best. Unfortunately didn't turn out the way we wanted to at the end with this tournament. We can't pinpoint this little moment, but we're going to look at the whole picture and say we've had a great journey together and ready to look forward.”
