Roger Federer and Martina Hingis teaming up for the mixed doubles event at the Rio Olympics in 2016 has been the subject of speculation all season long. Recently, a national newspaper in Switzerland is reporting that the two are set to play together.

Hingis had approached both Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka about playing mixed doubles, with Federer anticipated to make a decision during the off season.

Officially, it is still "unconfirmed."

Another decision Federer would have to make is whether to play three events. He won the 2008 Olympic doubles gold with Wawrinka.

A Federer-Hingis pairing could also mean Lausanne natives Wawrinka and Timea Bacsinszky teaming up. With Hingis playing with Belinda Bencic in the women's doubles, it would give Switzerland a significant presence in all three events.
