The doubles team of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis has now surpassed the winning streak of Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, who won 28 straight in 1994.

Mirza and Hingis beat Raluca Olaru and Yaroslava Shvedova in Sydney for their record-setting 29th straight victory.

The Indian and Swiss haven’t lost a match since Cincinnati last August. They teamed up in Indian Wells in 2015 and have only dropped a handful of matches since.

"I think this is something that I dreamed about, and I was hoping for," Hingis, a former singles No. 1, said. "I can only say it over and over again: It's a priority also. When I was playing singles, singles was [the] priority. I became No. 1 there. Also, simultaneously, I was No. 1 in both.

"Now I put 100 percent or 120 percent into this, and I think that's what makes us this great doubles [team]. The chemistry is amazing. We don't always play super tennis, but we come out and find a solution. I think that's what makes us, right now, the best doubles [team] in the world."

Mirza, who has won 33 doubles titles, said that the partnership is “kind of spoiling us a little bit.”

“Every time we're in a position to lose, we get so annoyed because we're obviously not used to it,” she said. “Which is normal. It's not like because we’ve been winning so much, we take it for granted. We try every time. We're the hunted. Everyone plays their best against us, and we have to keep playing our best as well to win.”

The Puerto Rican Fernandez and the Russian Zvereva won 14 Grand Slams together, while Mirza and Hingis have won two majors (Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2015).

Mirza and Hingis are the heavy favorites at the Australian Open. Last year, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova won the Australian Open and the French Open, but the Czech has been hurt since August. She wasn't able to play the 2015 U.S. Open and is out for the first major of the season.

Fifth-ranked doubles player Casey Dellacqua has bowed out of the Australian Open with post-concussion syndrome. Ekaterina Makarova, who is currently ranked No. 10 in singles, has been hurt since last August and hasn't played doubles since then.

The Taipei team of Yung-Jan Chan and Hao-Ching Chan was the last to best Mirza and Hingis, in the Cincinnati final.
