Eugenie Bouchard has set up an intriguing second-round encounter with Agnieszka Radwanska at the Australian Open after beating Aleksandra Krunic in straight sets.

Bouchard returned this season following a concussion sustained at the U.S. Open, and won six matches coming into the Australian Open.

"I wasn’t sure what to expect from myself," she said following her opening-round win. “I’ve had so much time off and experienced something I’d never experienced in my life. I’m happy that I’m able to find some kind of somewhat decent form so far, but I know I have a long road to go. I wasn’t even sure I would be in Australia, and I wasn’t even sure how my season would start for me.

"My goal is really to be healthy and enjoy myself on the court, and play as well as I can. I’m just glad to be back on tour."

Bouchard reached the final in Hobart, but said "personal family issues" kept her from playing at a high level in that match.

Having dropped from No. 5 to below the Top 40 following a poor season, the 21-year-old Canadian is still aiming for the top.

"Deep down I know I still believe in myself,” she said, “and have those dreams that I know I can achieve.”

Bouchard, who reached the quarterfinal Down Under a year ago, will meet fourth-seeded Radwanska next.

"She’s an amazing player,” Bouchard said. “I don’t think she’s lost in a while now, so she’s definitely going to be confident.”

Radwanska won their only previous tour meeting.
