MELBOURNE—Stanislas Wawrinka, who lost to Milos Raonic in five sets in the fourth round of the Australian Open, said that the Canadian has a chance to win his first Grand Slam Down Under.

But he still has a long way to go.

The 25-year-old Raonic reached the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2014, but struggled to go deep at majors last year, largely due to injuries.

Over the past 12 months, however, he’s upset Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and now Wawrinka.

“Always been dangerous with his serve, with his game,” Wawrinka, who added that he’s been sick over the past 10 days, said. “For sure he will have some chance to go far in Grand Slam. He always [has] been. But to win a Grand Slam, you have to beat two of the Big 4. It's never easy. I think there is few [players] that can push the top guys, that can go far in a Grand Slam.

"But we'll see at the end of the day who is going to take the title.”

Raonic will play Monfils in the quarterfinals.
