Simona Halep has been nominated to the Romanian Fed Cup team for its tie against the Czech Republic.

The world No. 3 is now scheduled to compete despite initially saying she would not play because of nose surgery. Local media said she was delaying her surgery to appear in the tie.

Halep fell in the first round of the Australian Open, and announced that in addition to a foot problem, her recent experience with an infection would require surgery.

She has withdrawn from Doha and Dubai.

The Czech Republic is led by Petra Kvitova.

Meanwhile, Eugenie Bouchard is not playing for Canada against Belarus, which is led by Victoria Azarenka.

"Because of my shortened off-season due to my injury, I am still working on getting back into top form," said Bouchard.

Britain’s Johanna Konta has also withdrawn with an intestinal problem.

Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Ana Ivanovic are other top-ranked players not participating in the first-round ties, while Angelique Kerber is scheduled to compete for Germany following her victory at the Australian Open.
