Nick Kyrgios will have scans on his hip before deciding if he can play this week's first-round Davis Cup tie, according to the *Herald Sun* newspaper.

Kyrgios, who is scheduled to play for Australia against the United States, retired in the Dubai semifinal against Stanislas Wawrinka with a back problem and also experienced other physical issues.

The 20-year-old said he picked up a hip injury while winning Marseille the week before, and also had a viral infection.

But Kyrgios indicated he would play in the tie if fit. "I'm going to be tired," he said following the semifinals, but added, "if I’m going to play, I’m going to do my best."

Bernard Tomic is scheduled to be Australia's other singles player, with John Isner and Jack Sock the named singles players for the Americans.
