Novak Djokovic says his eyes are improving, and he is aiming to return this week for Serbia’s Davis Cup tie.

The world No. 1 won his 700th match in Dubai a week ago, but retired from his next match against Feliciano Lopez with an eye infection. The quarterfinal defeat marked the first time he exited before a tournament final in more than a year, and it was his first retirement since 2011.

Djokovic was back on court practicing on Tuesday, and he appeared at a press conference on Wednesday, saying he should be fit enough to play.

"All is going well regarding my recovery, and I am optimistic about playing in the tie," he was quoted as saying by *Reuters*. “…I was very skeptical about playing at first, but I still have two days left to adapt to the light and other indoor conditions, and hopefully I will be OK."

He was photographed this week in Belgrade wearing dark glasses, but he did not have them on at the press conference. Photos showed his eye, which was visibly red during his match against Lopez, looking back to normal.
