Grigor Dimitrov has apologized for his temper tantrum during the Istanbul final.

The Bulgarian smashed three racquets en route to a devastating defeat to Diego Schwartzman. He lost after leading by a set and 5-2, and dropped the third set 6-0. The world No. 28 said he began experiencing cramps during the second set.

His racquet smashes earned him a warning, then a point penalty, and then another penalty in the final game that handed his opponent the title. The first came at the baseline as his lead began to evaporate, with Dimitrov repeatedly smacking his racquet on the ground. He swiped his racquet angrily as he went down 5-0, and in the ensuing game, Dimitrov walked to his chair, smashed his racquet multiple times and then shook hands with umpire Mohamed Lahyani.

He also smashed a racquet in the first round.

Following the final, he was apologetic.

"I let my family down, I let my team down, I let the fans down a little bit," he said on court. "It's all my fault. There's not much I can say."

The 24-year-old was the top seed at the event.
