Bernard Tomic will not apologize for his racquet-handle return on match point against Fabio Fognini in Madrid, for which the Australian has been heavily criticized.

Down 6-2, 5-4 (40-0) against Fognini, Tomic attempted to hit a return with his racquet handle, effectively handing the Italian the match. Video of the point has been circulating online, attracting critical comments about the 23-year-old’s attitude.

There were no contrite words from the controversial world No. 22, however. He instead opted to shrug off the public’s reaction.

"I don’t care about that match point," Tomic told a *Gold Coast Bulletin* reporter. “Would you care if you were 23 and worth over $10 million?"

It is not the first time that Tomic has been blasted for showing a lack of effort in matches. On court in Sydney, he questioned whether he should keep playing the tournament, since he had received a good draw to begin the Australian Open.

The three-time ATP tour champion was also at the center of controversy when he criticized Nick Kyrgios during a Davis Cup match.
