Simona Halep has withdrawn from Birmingham with an ankle problem, but she says she should be fit for Wimbledon.

The Romanian said in a statement that she began experiencing the problem upon arriving at the tournament.

"I have some fluid in the tendon, so the doctor said I have to rest for a few days," she said.

Halep said the problem is not a significant one, and she would begin training again in a few days, though she would have preferred to get in some grass-court play.

"I have almost two weeks to recover for Wimbledon," she said.

Halep reached the fourth round of the French Open.
