Ana Ivanovic, who lost in the first round of Wimbledon to Ekaterina Alexandrova, said that she was bothered by a wrist injury and perhaps shouldn't have played at all.

“It was very tough,” Ivanovic said. “Since two weeks I [struggled] with my right wrist. It was very hard to accelerate on my forehand. I tried to do everything possible to be fit and recover and tape it, and so on. But it was a little bit sore.  I feel like it caused me a lot of mishits.  My forehand was hard to control … I thought [Alexandrova] played really well and served very good.”

The former world No. 1 admitted that she considered withdrawing from the tournament.

“I did,” Ivanovic said. “During [the] Mallorca tournament, it really got inflamed. Then I had couple of days off. It [started] to calm down a little bit.  Every time I would start hitting, it would flare up.  I felt like I could probably manage it. It's tough on grass because [the] ball really skids through.  She was hitting very, very heavy.  So it was disappointing.”

Ivanovic added that she will probably not play until the Rio Olympics kick off in six weeks.  According to Serbian reports, she will marry German soccer player Bastian Schweinsteiger in two weeks.

“I think I'm going to take some time off,” she said. “My next tournament would be [the] Olympics.  So hopefully that will give it enough time to settle down.  [I] hope to do some MRI and see what's going on.”
