Rafael Nadal has announced that, despite recent wrist problems, he will compete in singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the upcoming Olympics.

The Spaniard reported that his wrist held up during a six-hour practice session, leading him and Spanish team captain Conchita Martinez to decide he was fit enough to play all three events.

"After discussing it with my team, I have decided I will play everything that I can," he told reporters on site in Rio de Janeiro. "We are here and practice has gone well, more or less. It's not ideal … The MRI scan was OK."

His first practice session was more limited. After it, Nadal said he did not know which events he would play, and admitted that he would not be at his "best level" in any of the events.

He has not played since withdrawing from the French Open mid-tournament with the wrist injury.

Nadal is scheduled to play doubles with Marc Lopez and mixed doubles with Garbine Muguruza. He is No. 5 in the rankings, but will be the third seed in singles.
