Novak Djokovic says he wants to regain his desire for competition, which dropped following his incredible success at the beginning of the season.

The world No. 1 is currently holding a charity event in Milan to raise funds for his foundation.

After falling to Stan Wawrinka in four sets in the U.S. Open final, the Serb is concentrating on "enjoying sport and enjoying being on the tennis court" again as he gets ready to return to the tour.

"I lost it along the way after Paris and the French Open," he told Sky Sports. "I felt that, over the last couple of months, it was difficult for me to re-engage myself ... The U.S. Open final was great considering the circumstances before that."

Djokovic went through an uncharacteristically underwhelming period after Roland Garros. He lost in the fourth round of Wimbledon, fell in the first round of the Olympics and came into Flushing Meadows with a wrist injury.

But with two Grand Slams and a dominant first half, Djokovic still considers 2016 a “great season.”

With the majors in the rearview mirror, Djokovic’s goal is to keep his sizable lead in the rankings and finish the season No. 1.

"Now I am looking forward to Asia and competing again," he said.

Djokovic is next scheduled to compete in Beijing in the first week of October.
