METZ, France (AP) With his serve clicking throughout, French veteran Julien Benneteau upset fifth-seeded Martin Klizan of Slovakia 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the Moselle Open on Monday.

Ranked more than 200 places below his opponent, the 34-year-old Benneteau had nine aces, won 87 percent of his first-serve points, 80 percent on second serve, did not face a break point and broke Klizan's serve five times in a one-sided match lasting less than one hour.

He next faces either countryman Paul-Henri Mathieu or Germany's Dustin Brown.

Also, sixth-seeded Gilles Muller of Luxembourg had 19 aces in a 7-6 (5), 7-5 win against Argentine Horacio Zeballos.

He plays either Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia or Frenchman Gregoire Barrere, who both came through the qualifying rounds at the indoor tournament in Metz.
