Andy Murray's title in Vienna has him within reach of the No. 1 ranking, but Novak Djokovic—who has been in the top spot for 122 consecutive weeks—could still keep it with a good performance at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.

Murray is now within 415 points of Djokovic, and he’ll move in front of the Serb if he wins the title and Djokovic doesn’t reach the final. If Djokovic gets to the final, he will keep the No. 1 ranking. But if he falls before the quarterfinal, Murray could get there by reaching the final.

Djokovic, who fell in the semifinals in Shanghai, said that Murray "definitely deserves to be in the position to finish up the year as No. 1.”

"Whether or not that's going to happen,” the 12-time Grand Slam champion added, “it doesn't depend only on him. It depends on me, as well."

Djokovic has recently spoken about a lack of desire on court, but said that he’ll be motived this week.

"I feel good right now," Djokovic told reporters before the tournament in Paris. “…Mentally, I’ve had to redefine my goals and things that are happening on and off the court, and just make sure that I'm in a good place. I’m going in the right direction. I'm just focused right now on Paris."

The ranking is in play because Djokovic's 1,300 points from winning the ATP Tour Finals a year ago are set to fall off next week, a week before the year-end tournament.

Regardless of what the players do in Paris, the No. 1 ranking will again be up for grabs at the ATP Tour Finals in London.
