Gael Monfils should be fit for the ATP Tour Finals despite withdrawing from the Paris Masters with an injury.

Holding a press conference in Bercy, Monfils provided further details about his injury problems this season, even bringing along the French Tennis Federation's doctor. They explained that his most recent issue involves a chest muscle tear, which Monfils experienced in Stockholm.

"I will be in the Finals, and I hope to be 100 percent," said the 30-year-old Monfils, who has qualified for the year-end event for the first time.

The Frenchman, who credits his new coach and increased commitment to the game as the reasons for his newfound consistency, is at a career-high ranking of No. 7. Of course, he wants to keep climbing.

"[It] was a year of change in the way I work, the way I see the game," Monfils said. "...We want to go higher [and] already have ideas for improvements."

He also said that, "apart from Novak [Djokovic]," he has shown that he can contend with the best players.

"With [Novak], it's a psychological block," he said, "...We have to work on it."

Monfils is a two-time finalist at the Paris Masters. His presence will be missed this week, as he's delivered some memorable shots at the tournament over the years.
