Juan Martin del Potro has confirmed that he will not be playing the Australian Open. He has also withdrawn from the warm-up event in Auckland, which is held between Jan. 9 – Jan. 14.

“Juan Martin del Potro has confirmed that he has not had sufficient recovery time and will be withdrawing from the Auckland Classic and the Australian Open,” a statement read.

The ASB Classic in Auckland also stated that Del Potro withdrew from the event "due to fitness concerns."

The Argentine previously indicated that he was in doubt for the Down Under swing, having just led Argentina to its first Davis Cup title a month ago.

"I know that I have 15 days of practice left for Australia and for my first tournament, and that’s a goal I’m not going to make," he told local reporters. "I don't want to have to withdraw from other tournaments other times."

Del Potro has played a limited schedule since returning from wrist surgery this past February. He is No. 38 in the rankings.
