Azarenka gives birth to first child, hopes to play 'pretty soon'

Victoria Azarenka has given birth to a son, she announced on social media. It’s her first child.

"Our son was born healthy and happy," wrote Azarenka, describing it as her "hardest fight" and "very best victory."

The former world No. 1 plans to return to tennis. In a recent interview with the Tennis Channel, she said she did not have an exact return date, but would begin playing tennis again “pretty soon.”

Azarenka won Indian Wells and Miami this season, but has not played since announcing her pregnancy.

She’s still No. 13 in the world despite her prolonged absence, but will be eligible for a protected ranking upon her return to the tour.
